Ailsa Victoria Miller is an artist who works from her home in the North East of England.
Initially studying Fashion Design at North Tyneside College she achieved a BTEC and HND. She went on to complete a degree at Northumbria University specialising in Printed Textiles. This allowed her to translate her artwork into printed designs. Early in her studies, her swimsuit design was awarded a cash prize in a competition run by The Clothes Show Magazine. Later, two of her print designs were sold to the fashion industry at Premier Vision in Paris. Then, on completion of her final collection, her designs were chosen to be shown at the London Graduate Fashion Show.
The influence of her design background is evident in her work today, creating statement artwork with a fresh contemporary feel. Her love of colour and art were always the inspiration for her designs. She is excited to be able to concentrate on her artwork, condensing the elements she loves about design into her exuberant artwork.
The emotional effect is as important as the visual aspect as she captures the vibrancy and expressiveness of nature. The intense colour yet soft application of pastels produces a feeling of warmth and optimism. It’s this emotional response observed by viewers of her work which fascinates and inspires her.
The uplifting and therapeutic effects of colour play an important role in promoting and maintaining wellbeing. Having suffered with stress, Ailsa appreciates these benefits on a personal level. Realising her work was as effective emotionally as it is visually, gave her the desire to share these positive feelings through the uplifting effects of her vibrant artwork. The simplicity of including colourful artwork in the home environment can increase wellbeing, transforming the look and feel of the entire living space.
Her colourful artwork is a good representation of her personality. She has many other creative interests including singing and playing guitar. Choosing to focus on the lighter side of life she enjoys comedies and generally likes to laugh. A lot! Another passion is dancing, Charleston and Lindy hop are her favourites. This style of dance is in keeping with the character of her artwork, lively, expressive and exuberant. With such busy lives that focus on work, it is important to find happiness and incorporate it into your life.
Whatever works for you.
